Cassius
I am Gauis Cassius Longinus also known as Cassius. Formerly a part of the Roman Senate, I experienced the villainous nature of Julius Caesar first hand. After taking part in the Battle of Carrhae in 53 BCE, I returned to Rome just before the civil war between Julius Caesar and Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus. After deciding to fight against him, I was taken over by Caesar and forced to surrender. He then made me a legate, and made me fight against King Pharnaces II of Pontus, who I was hoping to join after Pomey's defeat in Pharsalus. I later refused to fight, and was forced to retire instead. Because of Caesar, I lost my position in the tribune, and was left without office. He ruined many of the things I had worked so hard to accomplish, and foiled my own plans. When I was forced to surrender and work on Caesar's side, however, I did become privy to some other of his flaws; Caesar is not only a ruthless and villainous man, but he is also a self-glorifying one. He acts as if he is the king; he even calls himself so, but does things that no Roman leader would ever even attempt. Besides merely using the title preemptively, he claims to be a god as well, making sure to publicize his holiness by having a statue built of the god Jupiter, but with his own features instead. He has also made coins with his own face on them! Unfortunately, his conceit was not limited to artistic depictions. Being in his company was almost always torturous, as he continued to act as he was a heavenly creature on Earth. When in his presence, he would require all others to stand as he sat, making sure they knew that they were indeed inferior to his "majesty". While demanding the utmost respect for himself, he refrained from reciprocating the courtesy; as a member of the Senate, we were treated with no respect and deprived of most of our power.
