Marcus Licinius Crassus
My name is Marcus Licinius Crassus. I’m a Roman general, politician, friend, and political and financial patron of Julius Caesar. I’m also with Caesar and Pompey in the unofficial alliance called the First Triumvirate. I know Caesar very well. I’m here to tell you that Julius Caesar indeed deserves to be called a hero. Caesar is a great military commander, an ingenious creator, a talented artist and scholar, and a sweet individual.
First, I don’t think there should be any doubt in anyone’s mind that Caesar is one of the greatest military commanders the world has ever seen so far. I’ve fought in battles with him. He’s so bold, decisive, and confident as a general in every way you can imagine. He gives his soldiers orders decisively. He has an incredible charisma to make his troops work so well alongside him so he’s never lost a war so far and he will never lose a war as long as he remains such a bold, decisive, and confident military commander. He has great visions for Rome. He wants Rome to expand its boundary as much as possible. All he does has been for Rome to be as powerful as possible. He thinks about what he can do solely for the good of Rome. Without him, it’d never have been possible for the Roman Republic to transform into the Roman Empire.
Secondly, Caesar is an intelligent creator. He’s created the Julian Calendar. The Julian Calendar has been so useful to the world ever since he created it. The Julian Calendar enables us to know the time of arrival of all four seasons every year. It makes us plant crops, flowers, raise farm animals etc a lot better. It gives us a very clear concept of what time is in our lives. It creates a lot of convenience for people everywhere on the planet.
Thirdly, Caesar shouldn’t only be known for his military accomplishments on the battlefields. He’s so much more than that. He’s also a very brilliant artist and scholar. He writes great poems, proses, and compositions. He enjoys the arts very much. He’s a sweet man, which is usually one of the components of artistic people. He knows I can’t get along with Pompey so he initiated the idea of the three of us joining as a group called the First Triumvirate to see if there would be any improvement in the relationship between Pompey and I.
Some would think Caesar is so reckless to act in battles sometimes. I totally think that’s a very normal and natural traits that military commanders have. Military commanders should be insensitive in order to be bold, decisive, and confident. When Caesar is off the battlefields, he becomes back to be a very sweet person. Caesar knows his professional life and private life should be separated. He’s done a great job dealing with the separation of the two so far. In my view, Julius Caesar can be summed up in one following sentence-Julius Caesar is a courageous military leader, a bright innovator, a gifted academic and a sweet individual.
