Marc Anthony
My name is Marc Anthony and I'm the best friend and relative of Julius Caesar. I support his decision to bring dictatorship into Rome. I believe that he is a great contributor.
I know him better than anyone else. In 54 B.C, I went to Gaul to join Julius Caesar as part of the military staff. I became a tribune, an officer who represented the interest of the people. I was brought into the office because Caesar's command in Gaul was ending soon and a group in the senate wanted to bring Caesar to trial because they thought that he was misusing his power. Caesar depended on me and the other tribunes to look after Rome. A series of civil wars broke out because of Caesar and Pompey, who was the leader of the senate. I was given many important military assignments and, after we defeated Pompey, I returned to Italy as Caesar's second in command and, he designated me as a consul in 45 B.C.
I understand why he made himself a dictator. Rome was in desperate need of a rescue. Ever since the rule of the Gracchus brothers, Rome has been in a state of violence. Under the influence of Marius and Sulla, thousands were killed in civil wars for their loyalties for their political views. By becoming a dictator, he was able to bring peace and order back to Rome. He also appointed officials like consuls, ending the corruption and false promises made by politicians to get elected. He appointed men based on their qualifications for the job. He was also forgiving towards his political opponents.
